PAUSING, SLOWING DOWN AND SUSPENDING MOVEMENT

29 Feb 2020

Tango Amistoso 24-27 White Lion St. Islington London N1 9PD

WORKSHOP #1:
PAUSING, SLOWING DOWN AND SUSPENDING MOVEMENT

All levels, basic technique, both roles

Argentine Tango is an energetic, rhythmical dance with lots of intricate figures that we often feel like dancing at top speed, inspired by the mind-blowing performances of our favorite stars. However, tango is also a dance of silence, with moments of stillness and depth, giving the partners the opportunity to reconnect to each other, to feel themselves, the floor, the music, and to express tango’s more introverted side. When dancing socially. we want to be able to pause, to suspend movement and to breathe.

The workshop will include:
– Warming up exercises for the legs and the core, followed by some relaxation techniques to free the upper body from excess tension
– Exercises on how to slow down, suspend and pause movement without losing balance or disconnecting from the music
– Pausing and suspensions in a simple walk, by using the pauses in the music
– Basic figures that allow us to stop, breathe and connect to our partner: parada, pasada and sandwich.
